Privacy policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
This policy explains what personal data is processed when you play Sombie (the game, its servers and this website), why, how long it is kept, and what you can do about it. Sombie is an always-online multiplayer game, so some data has to be stored on our servers for the game to work at all.
Who we are
Sombie is published by Makapar Games, which is the data controller for the data described here. For anything about privacy, including requests to see or delete your data, write to makapargames@gmail.com.
What we collect
Account and sign-in
You need an account to play. We do not offer our own username-and-password accounts; you sign in through Steam or Google.
- Steam: when you play through Steam, or sign in with Steam on a mobile device, we receive your Steam ID and Steam display name. We never see your Steam password or payment details.
- Google sign-in: when you sign in with Google we store your Google account ID and your verified email address. The email is kept for account support and is never shown to other players. We do not store the name on your Google profile, and we never see your Google password.
- Device identifier: on mobile the game creates a random identifier for the device and links it to the Steam or Google account you sign in with, so the device stays signed in.
- Display name: the name you choose for other players to see.
- Sign-in sessions: a session token that keeps you logged in until it expires.
Game data
- Your characters: names, appearance, inventory, position, skills, quests, money and other progress.
- Things you build or own in the world: bases, placed items, vehicles, stored items, auction listings.
- Scores and records shown to other players, such as leaderboards and fishing records.
- When your play sessions start and end, used for statistics about how the game is played.
- In-game justice records: reported crimes, trial cases, verdicts and sentences. Players serving as jurors can see the record of the case they judge.
Chat and voice
- Text chat (global, local, party and whispers) is delivered to the players it is addressed to and is logged for 48 hours so that reports of abuse can be reviewed.
- Voice chat is transmitted to nearby players and is recorded for 48 hours for the same reason. Recordings are only accessible to moderators and are deleted automatically.
If you do not want your voice recorded, do not use voice chat; the game is fully playable without it.
Moderation and security
- Your IP address and device identifier as last seen for your account. These are used to enforce bans and mutes and to protect the servers from abuse.
- Player reports: who reported whom, and the reason given.
- Bans, mutes and other moderator actions taken against an account, and a history of names an account has used.
Technical data
- Crash reports: when the mobile version of the game crashes, it uploads the last part of its technical log the next time it starts, so we can find the cause. The report contains technical details about the device and what the game was doing. It is associated with your IP address for rate limiting.
- Server logs: our game and web servers keep ordinary operational logs, which can include IP addresses, player names and events such as joining, leaving and clicking the in-game wishlist or feedback buttons.
What we do not do
- We do not show advertising and do not sell or rent your data to anyone.
- The game contains no third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
- This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking scripts.
Why we use it
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Running the game: signing you in, saving your characters and progress, showing you to other players, delivering chat and voice | Performing our agreement with you (the End User License Agreement) |
| Moderation and safety: chat and voice logs, reports, bans, IP and device identifiers | Our legitimate interest in keeping the game safe and fair for all players |
| Fixing and improving the game: crash reports, server logs, play statistics | Our legitimate interest in a working, well-balanced game |
Who can see it
- Other players see your character, your character name, what you say in chat and voice, and your entries on leaderboards.
- Our moderators and developers can access the data above when needed to run and moderate the game.
- Hosting providers that run our servers on our behalf. Game servers are currently hosted in the Netherlands, the United States and Singapore, and the player database in Germany.
- Valve (Steam) and Google are involved when you sign in through them; their own privacy policies apply to what they collect.
- Authorities, if we are legally required to disclose data.
Our Discord server is run on Discord and is covered by Discord's privacy policy, not this one.
Where it is processed
Account and character data is stored in the European Union. When you choose to play on a region outside the EU (United States or Singapore), the data needed to run your session, including chat and voice logs for that region, is processed on the servers in that region.
How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Text chat logs | 48 hours |
| Voice chat recordings | 48 hours |
| Crash reports | Up to 14 days |
| Sign-in sessions | Until the session expires |
| Account, characters and game progress | Until you ask us to delete your account |
| Bans, mutes and the moderation record | As long as needed to enforce them and to prevent banned players from returning |
Chat or voice material that is evidence in a moderation case may be kept longer, for as long as the case requires.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to:
- get a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- have incorrect data corrected;
- have your data deleted;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use your data;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- complain to your local data protection authority.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete individual characters yourself in the game's character screen. To delete your whole account and the data tied to it, email makapargames@gmail.com from an address we can match to you and include your in-game name and, if you play on Steam, your Steam ID. We will confirm that the request comes from the account owner and then delete the account, its characters and progress. Records of bans may be kept where needed to enforce them.
Children
Sombie is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will publish the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
